My favorite places on Lake Como. Cernobbio for genuine glamorous feel. Bellagio for its magnificent views from one of thebmost gorgeous terraces in pink. Varenna because it’s such a lovely authentic village. Torno since you can eat the best food from Lago di Como directly above the lake with stunning views of the other side of Lake Como.
Transportation on and around Lago di Como
I love to drive the car, drive where you like and stop whenever you want, freedom! A wonderful way to explore Lake Como and easy to do in a day. Another great way to see Lake Como is by boat. Transportation across theb lake is very easy. You can opt for a ride in a taxi boat, beautiful, handcrafted wooden boats with your private capitano. For much less money you can boat the lake in a kind of busboat. In most major villages you can hop on a hydrofoil or car ferry and will treat you on gorgeous views all over the lake for just a few euro’s . The last time I was on Lake Como I had a hotel in Bellagio where the ferry stops almost around the corner from the hotel. Very comfy!
Cosmopolitan atmosphere in Cernobbio
Cernobbio is on the left side of the left leg of Lake Como. In Cernobbio you can sniff the real unadulterated chic La Dolce Vita. Just get a drink at Villa d’Este and make yourself believe that you are a guest here. I like to do that! Take extensive time on your appetizer and just sit and watch the world go by. People come and go in the most expensive cars, beautiful taxi boats or even by seaplane. Villa d’Este is surrounded by beautiful gardens they have this unique pool that floats on the lake with a built-in Jacuzzi.

Bellagio for a central base to explore Lake Como and my favorite pink terras
Bellagio is famous for being famous. It’s a tiny little town with a few pretty lanes to wander through. It is located right in the middle of the left and right leg. Bellagio is a very central base to explore Lake Como by boat. My personal main reason to go to Bellagio is Hotel Metropole Bellagio. It has an enchanting small, little terrace all the way along the hotel above the water. It looks amazing from the water with a lot of pink flowers and matching table linen.
Small fishing cottages in Varenna
Varenna is genuine, authentic, it has small fishermen’s cottages and a small pebbly beach. There are a few small art shops and some restaurants. It’s obviously a tourist town but the atmosphere is much more authentic than, say Bellagio,….which is very touristy. It is much more quieter and here you can just wander along the waterfront sit on a small terrace and watch the ducks. I must tell you that this is one of favorite places on Lake Como for it’s atmosphere.
My own little secret at Lago di Como,….it’s about food and views!
Completely by accident I ever came up lunchtime in the village of Torno and if you are in italy then you want lunchtime one thing, lunch, … but where? Torno is a small sleepy village, not yet discovered by tourists. Automatically we walked towards the buzz and finally found a great restaurant, unspoiled Italian style, with a magnificent terrace above the water facing the other side of the lake. It was packed and people were waiting outside on the small square to get a table. The crowd was mainly locals from and around Torno. My favorite restaurant on lake Como, ….. Albergo Ristorante Vapore. Next time I will also spend the night here! Can’t wait!!!
