Everything went well and in the early afternoon me and my suitcase were walking to the other side of the street to THE Apartment. Travelling never was so easy!!!

New happy energie in the Rome Apartment

There I was,…. In the apartment where just somebody had just left and had taken almost everything with him. It felt a bit like a house that  lost his soul. You know the drill, a house that has just been abandoned, house … it had no atmosphere anymore.  We were going to do something about that. We put on some music on the computer and doors and windows were thrown open and the Roman Summer  oxygen came into the house. New energy! Together with my good Roman friend, artist Claudio Assandri, a mutual friend of the owners, of the apartment, we started moving the furniture.

Scrubbing, cleaning and shopping

A beautiful antique mirror cabinet stood in the kitchen and had to  go back to the room along with all the other beautiful antique interior. The closet in the room went to the kitchen. The small make-over I took enthusiastically at me and I was dreaming I was working in my own Rome apartment. I scrubbed and cleaned like a real Italian with a huge sunglasses on (yes, also during cleaning, off course,..itssa Italyyy!), did the shopping and bought things for the house.

What?….No matrass?!!

That same afternoon we needed a mattress and a bed base … the previous owner had taken all his things and now there was only a beautiful antique bed but NO bed base and No mattress.

That surely would be a nice mattress, .. to lie upon that night. But where do you get it so quickly in the heart of Rome? And could this be arranged so quickly??? I went out with Claudio, born and raised in Rome and knows the city inside out. In a breakneck speed we were walking down a number of addresses and meanwhile there were some passionate back and forth calls.

Lovely old ladies with great tips behind Piazza Navona

Finally we ended up in the smallest alleyways behind Piazza Navona. We arrived at a shop with two sweet old ladies who told us where we needed to be. It was a challenge, the right size, and it had to be delivered the same day and it was already late afternoon. But hey, somewhere in the this lovely little streets behind Piazza Navona we found and the right mattress and the right bed base. There was some namedropping here and there (works in Italy) because the delivery the same day was a real challenge! But yes, they made the promise!

It all would be delivered, .. early evening. Soooooo, say once again that is not possible very that something can be arranged particularly fast  in Italy. Unorganized Italy suddenly seemed to work quite well!! Early evening first the mattress and pillows were delivered. A little bit later, the most adorable, smallest  Italian truck you have ever seen, came driving near the house. And yessss, with the smallest matching Italian driver. But it was there !!! It realy happened!

Next challenge … would it all fit in the antique Italian bed ??? I took some distance for a moment and let the men do their job,….. this was clearly a man thing, They fit, measured, flipped the bed, and disassembled it. It did not fit, … there were some old hidden corners in the antique bed who didn’t want to work with the modern bed .

Unorganized Italia works very well!

Finally we only put down the new bed, just fine for the time being. The beautiful antique wooden bed was finally allowed to a rest a little against the wall. When I crawled into my bed at night,  I was tired but satisfied, done so much and only in one day. A few of my Dutch friends would be amazed by the quick actions of the Italians.  And I would have great Italian coffee in the morning!
